Desde que se hizo habitual la llegada de jugadores indios a los torneos catalanes (ya más de una década), el nombre del portento Pranesh se ha hecho habitual para todos. Sus participaciones en diferentes eventos han dejado muestras palpables de su brillantez en el juego-ciencia, por lo que no ha sido sorpresivo que llegase al VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament en su máximo pico de forma. De hecho, Pranesh viene de haberse adjudicado en agosto el 2025 Chennai Grand Masters, consiguiendo 6,5 puntos de los 10 posibles.

Otro de los temas que deseamos contarles en esta crónica es la sorpresiva victoria de la kazaja Meruert Kamalidenova (2343) sobre el legendario Michal Krasenkow (2490), con las piezas blancas. Kamalidenova, tal como apuntó el reputado fotógrafo oficial del torneo, David Llada, tiene de momento una performance de 2600, sumando 4 puntos de 5 posibles.

Como ustedes bien saben, el ajedrez es uno de los deportes más igualitarios, pues hombres y mujeres compiten en los abiertos internacionales sin restricciones por sexo. Bien es cierto que, si nos fijamos solo en la clasificación de los 100 primeros por ranking en el mundo, la presencia masculina es abrumadora, pero la tendencia global indica que el ajedrez femenino se expande en cantidad y en calidad. ¿Busca una actividad extraescolar sana y emocionante para su hija? En esta quinta ronda del VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament, el toque de campana que da inicio a las partidas ha correspondido a Adinur Adilbek, campeón del mundo de blitz sub8; Danis Kuandykuly, subcampeón mundial sub12 y Mark Smirnov, subcampeón mundial sub14. ¿Recuerdan que les dijimos que el Llobregat Open Chess Tournament es cuna de futuro?

En términos deportivos, Pranesh ha truncado la racha del gran maestro local José Manuel López, lo que le sitúa al frente de la clasificación provisional con 4,5 puntos, seguido por Cristóbal Henríquez… y por otros 10 jugadores con 4 puntos! Han llamado la atención las tablas del propio Henríquez con el chino Zhang Di, quien aún no tiene titulación internacional (pero un nivel de ajedrez absolutamente formidable). La otra sorpresa del día, tal como les avanzamos, ha sido la victoria de la kazaja Kamalidenova sobre Krasenkow.

En el Grupo B, la samboiana Joana Ros lidera la clasificación provisional con 4 puntos, seguida por Daniel Santos, con 3,5 y por 7 jugadores con 3 puntos.

Pranesh, No. 1 in the rankings, new provisional leader of the VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament

Indian player Pranesh Munirethinam arrived at the Llobregat Open Chess Tournament with the ambition of winning the tournament. His Elo rating of 2630 FIDE put him at the top of the rankings, and by Round 5, he had already established himself as the provisional leader.

Since Indian players began regularly participating in Catalan tournaments (more than a decade ago now), the name of the prodigy Pranesh has become familiar to everyone. His participation in various events has left tangible evidence of his brilliance in the game-science, so it was no surprise that he arrived at the VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament in peak form. In fact, Pranesh comes off the back of winning the 2025 Chennai Grand Masters in August, scoring 6.5 points out of a possible 10.

In sporting terms, Pranesh has ended the winning streak of local grandmaster José Manuel López, putting him at the top of the provisional standings with 4.5 points, followed by Cristóbal Henríquez... and 10 other players with 4 points! Henríquez's draw with China's Zhang Di, who does not yet have an international title (but is an absolutely formidable chess player), has attracted attention. The other surprise of the day, as we mentioned earlier, was the victory of Kazakhstan's Kamalidenova over Krasenkow.
