Ivan Cheparinov: 4 times Champion of Bulgaria

Ivan Cheparinov, born on November 26, 1986 in Bulgaria, is a chess player who, at the early age of five, learned to play from his father and during his youth, progressed rapidly, resulting in numerous achievements, including: four-time Bulgarian Champion (2004, 2005, 2012 and 2018). In his youth, he won the Bulgarian Youth Championship in 2000. Later, in 2007, he won the European Championship and the Sigeman & Co. Tournament. In 2012 he came first in the Politiken Cup, in 2013 he was the second best player in his country and number 38 in the world but, in addition to many other achievements, he was assistant to Veselin Topalov, the 2005 World Champion. But not all are great milestones, but there are also controversies such as the one that happened in 2008 for refusing to shake hands with Nigel Short in moments before the game in the Tata Steel tournament, held in the Dutch city of Wijk aan Zee. It is believed that the cause of this action was due to Short’s criticism of Topalov in previous years.
