World Chess Championship, game 4 – Live from GM Miguel Illescas 19:00 h.

By Redacción Ajedrez21

Nepomniachtchi surprises with his Defense. The challenger easily equalizes with Black and maintains equality in the match.

There was much expectation to see if Carlsen would continue to take risks with the white pieces, as he did in the second game. The truth is that Nepomniachtchi has not allowed it, as he has proposed the super-solid Petrov Defense (also called Russian Defense). This approach is notorious for tending to positions with few prospects for both players.

In this situation, the world champion led the game to an end with a slight initiative, but “Nepo” defended well and the tie was signed before the first time control in the 33rd move.

The match is still tied and tomorrow, Wednesday 01/12, the fifth game will be played at 13.30 hours (Spanish time).

As every game day, the grandmaster and 8 times champion of Spain Miguel Illescas, will comment the duel live from LA VANGUARDIA, starting at 7:00 pm. (Spain UTC +1).

SCORE after game 4

  • Magnus Carlsen: 2 points.
  • Ian Nepomniachtchi: 2 points.
