The LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESS, the most important open held in Spain, offers the host city an opportunity to improve its international presence. The City Council of Sant Boi, with which we have agreed to maintain the tournament venue for the next four editions, is actively working to position the name of the city in the world of chess: the city council, through the Catalan Chess Federationmonths ago, extended an invitation to visit Sant Boi on Friday, July 6, Willy Iclicki, director of the International Chess Federation (FIDE)responsible for the organization of the events celebrating the centennial of FIDE’s founding. It will be an opportunity for you to know first hand the organization works of the fourth edition of EL LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESS; which, in this edition of 2023, will be the only Open to be held in Spain subsidized by FIDE.

The mayoress Lluïsa Moret will discuss with Willy Iclicki, the possibility of Sant Boi to be present in one of the acts of celebration of the centenary FIDE.

In this fourth edition of the Open, we will add new sponsors to those who have accompanied us in previous editions. We have just mentioned the collaboration of FIDE. The newspaper EL PAIS, with its journalist specialized in chess, Leontxo García, will help us to improve the news coverage of the tournament, especially in South America, where EL PAIS is the international reference media for the whole Spanish-speaking world.

It is already known that the nine rounds of the tournament will be held in Can Massallera (Sant Boi), from November 30 to December 8. And that during those days, and even before, we will offer different complementary activities of which we have already been informing and we will continue to do so until completing the offer 2023. One of these activities can already be announced: after the last round and awards ceremony, scheduled for December 8, on the following day (Saturday 9), in the same facilities, the Ibero-American Quick Match Championship will be held. An official tournament, organized by the Spanish and Catalan Federation; the organizers have offered us the possibility of holding it within the framework of activities of EL LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESS 2023. We have expressed our willingness and commitment to cooperate with them.

We continue working to complete the offer of activities of EL LLOBREGAT OPEN CHESS 2023.
