¡Qué difícil es mantenerse en las primeras plazas de un torneo de ajedrez durante diez rondas! Cada partida implica enfrentarse a rivales capaces de castigar el más mínimo error; la presión aumenta a medida que las expectativas crecen. Por eso, llegar a la última ronda con opciones reales y, finalmente, alzarse con el primer puesto, no solo demuestra talento ajedrecístico, sino también una fortaleza psicológica excepcional.
El gran maestro indio Bharath Subramaniyam, sumando 8 puntos sobre 10, ha estado todo el torneo en los puestos provisionales de privilegio, esa zona noble que alimenta las esperanzas de conseguir un buen premio económico cuando finaliza la competición. Los 5.000 euros que aguardan al campeón son un atractivo que se extiende hasta los 500 euros que obtiene el 25º clasificado, haciendo del Llobregat Open Chess Tournament una cita muy recomendable para los profesionales del juego-ciencia.

La segunda plaza en el VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament ha sido para el gran maestro chileno Cristóbal Henríquez, quien también se irá de Sant Boi de Llobregat con buenas sensaciones. Los 3.500 euros que ha conseguido tras su paso por el torneo disputado en el hotel Sercotel Sant Boi hacen justicia a los 7,5 puntos de desempeño, a solo un peldaño de la victoria global.

La tercera plaza, también con 7,5 puntos, ha sido para el gran maestro norteamericano Brewington Hardaway. Nos deja, además, una importante lección de vida: Hardaway, en la segunda ronda, perdió contra todo pronóstico con el incombustible gran maestro Karen Movsziszian. En estas circunstancias, el sobreesfuerzo de remontar posiciones en la clasificación puede desmotivar al profesional, incluso provocando el abandono del torneo. Sin embargo, Hardaway ha protagonizado una remontada que le ha garantizado un puesto de honor y, además, 2.500 euros.

En el Grupo B, la victoria en el torneo ha sido para Elsultan Kaliakhmet (7 puntos); la segunda plaza ha sido para Joana Ros (6,5) y la tercera, con igual puntuación, para Xavier Escoriza.

La ceremonia de clausura ha sido muy emotiva, siendo honrados con la visita de César Thovar, Delegado de Deportes de la Generalitat de Catalunya en el Baix Llobregat; la alcaldesa de Sant Boi de Llobregat y presidenta de la Diputació de Barcelona Lluïsa Moret; la teniente de alcalde de Sant Boi de Llobregat Maria Valencia, la vicepresidenta de la Federació Catalana d´Escacs Teresa Muñoz y el periodista del diario La Vanguardia Roberto Rodríguez, quien entrevistó al jovencísimo MI Roman Shogdzhiev.

En el VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament se han conseguido 12 normas maestria. Para los aficionados a la historia del deporte, recordamos los hitos conseguidos por El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament en las cinco ediciones precedentes:
- Mejor abierto celebrado en España en las ediciones 2022 y 2023, según certifica el Consejo Superior de Deportes y la FEDA (Federación Española de Ajedrez).
- Sumamos más de mil participantes; 50% titulados internacionales.
- Una media de 45 países representados en cada edición.

- En 2024 retransmitimos desde 63 tableros electrónicos y 12 cámaras; conectaron con elllobregat.com/openchess, 40.762 usuarios de 40 países, con un total de 71.515 páginas servidas. En YouTube, los vídeos generados durante el torneo suman 415.892 visualizaciones.

Bharath Subramaniyam wins the VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament
Indian player Bharath Subramaniyam has won the VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament (2573). Chilean Cristóbal Henríquez was runner-up. Third place went to American Brewington Hardaway.

How difficult it is to stay at the top of a chess tournament for ten rounds! Each game involves facing opponents capable of punishing the slightest mistake; the pressure increases as expectations grow. That is why reaching the final round with real chances and ultimately winning first place not only demonstrates chess talent, but also exceptional psychological strength.
Indian grandmaster Bharath Subramaniyam, with 8 points out of 10, has been in the provisional top spots throughout the tournament, that privileged position that gives hope of a good cash prize at the end of the competition. The €5,000 awaiting the champion is an attractive prize, as are the €500 awarded to the 25th-placed player, making the Llobregat Open Chess Tournament a highly recommended event for professionals of the game of chess.

Second place in the VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament went to Chilean grandmaster Cristóbal Henríquez, who will also leave Sant Boi de Llobregat feeling positive. The €3,500 he earned after competing in the tournament held at the Sercotel Sant Boi hotel does justice to his 7.5 performance points, just one step away from overall victory.

Third place, also with 7.5 points, went to American grandmaster Brewington Hardaway. He also leaves us with an important life lesson: in the second round, Hardaway lost against all odds to the indomitable grandmaster Karen Movsziszian. In such circumstances, the extra effort required to climb back up the rankings can demotivate professionals, even causing them to abandon the tournament. However, Hardaway staged a comeback that secured him a place of honour and, in addition, €2,500.

In Group B, the tournament victory went to Elsultan Kaliakhmet (7 points); second place went to Joana Ros (6.5) and third place, with the same score, went to Xavier Escoriza.

The closing ceremony was very emotional, with the honour of visits from César Thovar, Sports Delegate for the Generalitat de Catalunya in Baix Llobregat; the Mayor of Sant Boi de Llobregat and President of the Barcelona Provincial Council, Lluïsa Moret; the Deputy Mayor of Sant Boi de Llobregat, Maria Valencia; the Vice-President of the Catalan Chess Federation, Teresa Muñoz; and the journalist from the newspaper La Vanguardia, Roberto Rodríguez, who interviewed the very young IM Roman Shogdzhiev.

At the VI El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament, 12 master norms were achieved. For fans of sporting history, here is a reminder of the milestones achieved by the Llobregat Open Chess Tournament in the five previous editions:
- Best open tournament held in Spain in 2022 and 2023, as certified by the Higher Sports Council and the FEDA (Spanish Chess Federation).
